Wow, End of the semester!

May 3rd, 2009

The semester flew by before I could even blink my eyes. But, I have been documenting the build!

Here is my photoalbum of the build, in chronological order. Currently, we just need to finish fitting the frame with chains and electronics, then we’re done! I’ll post more images as they happen. This week, I will be working Monday through Thursday, 12PM to 3PM. Feel free to stop in!

We had our first meeting!

February 21st, 2009

Wednesday night was the first RepRap @ Allegheny meeting.  We sat around a little table in GFC and drank coffee and talked about the possibilities of this project and got super excited about it.  It’s good to see that people are that excited.  It looks like we’re going to have a dedicated core of three or four builders, but anyone else is welcome to come out to our weekly build sessions, too.  You can contribute if you like, or talk to us about it, or just check in on our progress.  We’re going to meet in Alden (Either in Prof. Jadud’s office or in the hallway) on WEDNESDAYS, from 7 to 9 PM.

I hope I’ll remember to take pictures of all of the little plastic parts we have.  They look really delicate and beautiful in their plastic sheets.  The unassembled bits of the electronic chips are really neat, too.

We hope to see you next week.

If You Weren’t Excited Already…

February 3rd, 2009

How often do you look at something in your house that’s broken and think, “If I could only finagle something here to…?”  I was poking around the RepRap site a bit and got excited about images of reprapped household objects.

Halfway down this site you’ll see a water filter part, some shoes, a doorhandle, an iPod holder…

I’m just imagining all of the things I could attach to other things with custom clips.  There are probably a million possibilities for hanging art on a wall with this.  Custom pedestals for sculptures, maybe hanging bits…

Hello world! – About the RepRap

January 20th, 2009

RepRap at Allegheny is a group (of sorts) building a 3D printer for Allegheny College.  We will post all of our updates to this blog, so check back often!

If you want to know more about us, our project, and 3D printing, try the links to the right.  If you have unanswered questions, you can always email us!

An extra thank you to Joe Shaffer for getting the money from ACM for this project.  Thank you to ACM for funding us.

My name is Maja Sweeny, and I am a senior art student at Allegheny. I am working on this project with Computer Science Professor Matt Jadud. We would like to invite those interested or curious about the RepRap to talk to us, and even join us in building and testing it! You can probably find one of us around campus, or you can email us:
